On Monday, December 16th we honoured two very special long-term employees. Jorge Medeiros began his 47-year cleaning position at Alliance Building Maintenance, formerly Conmar Janitorial.
Shortly thereafter, Jorge married and continued to clean with his wife, Bernie. Over the years, they have provided exemplary service. Our client, United Way of Alberta, whom we have provided services for since 2007, is also sad to see them go. In November, they also honoured Jorge and Bernie with a presentation and gift.
During our cake and gift meeting, Jorge and Brendan – the owner of Alliance Building Maintenance and previously Conmar Janitorial – shared old cleaning stories of days past.
Not only did Jorge work for Brendan, but he also worked for Brendan’s father and mother back in the ’70s. Jorge and Bernie made a commitment many years ago, to work hard in order for Bernie to stay home with their children. While Bernie worked at home during the day, Jorge always held down a full-time day position as an IT specialist and they came together in the evenings to clean.
At the end of December Jorge and Bernie will hang up their mops and brooms one last time and begin a new adventure in the world of retirement. On behalf of everyone at Alliance Building Maintenance, we raise our glass and say cheers or shall we say “Felicidades” in the Portuguese language – thank you for your service!
